0 Cbt And Nlp For Agoraphobia

Cbt And Nlp For Agoraphobia
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is considered to be extremely effective in helping people to overcome panic disorders, and this can usually be achieved within 8 sessions. I use CBT at my practice in Hertfordshire and have found it very useful in treating agoraphobia, particularly when used in conjunction with a newer cognitive therapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). This article details some of the ways in which courses of CBT and NLP are used during NLP Herts to help clients achieve freedom from agoraphobia.

1. Cognitive Therapy - At NLP and CBT courses in Herts, people are supported to identify and change the distorted thinking patterns that maintain anxiety. Behind panic attacks and anxiety are negative thoughts. These thoughts alone cannot cause anxiety, but the belief that they are true does cause anxiety. The therapist works with the client to reduce belief in such thoughts, this in turn reduces anxiety.

2. Behavioural Therapy - This involves desensitizing your anxiety through gradual exposure to your feared situations. The therapist offers practical support and activities may be carried out in the community, during these sessions.

3. Learning cognitive techniques to beat your panic - clients that come for NLP and CBT courses in Herts are taught specific techniques that can be used and that must be practiced in between sessions. The challenge is using these techniques during times when you are experiencing panic and clients are supported to become competent at this. Of course, once clients are competent they become panic free!

4. Practising - You will get out of therapy what you put in and mastering your panic will involve you carrying out practice in between sessions. Typical practice assignments include keeping a 'Beating Panic' Journal', carrying out practice related to your 'going out and about' goal and creating a routine that involves empowering 'calm' activities. You will also be required to practice any coping techniques taught to you by the therapist, such as using your anchors (see below).

5. NLP Communication Model - Clients are taught NLP clean language techniques. This means learning to think and communicate with your self in a way that supports being safe, confident, and relaxed.

6. NLP Change Techniques - NLP, which is an understanding of how we code experience in our brain, has a range of techniques, which can be used to reduce or eradicate the intensity of remembered experiences. Its possible to take an unpleasant memory, examine how it is coded and then make changes so that it is no longer unpleasant and the emotion can just drain away. If you suffer from unpleasant memories or fears, an NLP therapist can help you deal with this, via submodality work. These treatments are available from my therapy practice, where I use NLP Herts. You can also learn to be aware of the impact of how you code experience yourself.

7. Anchoring For Emotional Balance - Anchors are naturally occurring associations between an external stimulus and a behavioural or emotional response. They occur because the human mind constantly seeks to make sense of the environment by looking for patterns and associations between things. People learn to make negative associations between things. In the case of agoraphobia this may be associating going for a walk to the corner shop with fear and panic. NLP deliberately makes use of anchors in order to empower people to have control over their emotional states. There are specific NLP techniques in which a stimulus is used to trigger and link an emotional state. The stimulus is usually external and may be a sound or touch. Through these techniques it is possible to for an individual to build up a resource of positive emotional states, which they can access in any situation in which they need them. It is also possible to completely collapse negative anchors so that external stimuli that cause you negative emotional states will no longer be a problem.

These are just some of the ways that NLP and CBT Courses in Herts can be effective at empowering people to overcome agoraphobia and other panic disorders.

0 The Mental Illness Of Choice For Ceos And Politicians

The Mental Illness Of Choice For Ceos And Politicians
Add captionDave HodgesACTIVIST POSTAfter writing my most recent article with regard to what typically happens when a currency collapse takes down a country's economy, many people wrote to me asking me when it is going to happen. The short answer is that I have a hard time predicting the actions of psychopaths. All of us have a hard time predicting the action of others who are so different from the mainstream of America because most of us do not think like psychopaths. However, I can state with certainty that when the last mortgage has been stolen and the last pension has been confiscated, then it will be time to collapse the dollar. Our country should be dubbed, the United States of Psychopathology. Psychopaths are at the root of the world's problems. They kill hundreds of millions in wars which serves no purpose except to enrich themselves. Subsequently, psychopaths such as the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds recruit already compromised psychopaths to do their bidding in both elected office and key administrative positions.THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS GOING CRAZYThe United States of America is presently undergoing a mental health crisis. An estimated 26.2% of Americans ages 18 and older suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. This figure translates to almost 60 million people who have a diagnosable mental illness. Even though mental disorders are widespread in the population, the main burden of illness is concentrated in a much smaller proportion, which is confined to about 6% of the population, or about 1 in 17 who suffer from a serious mental illness. Nearly half (45%) of those with any mental disorder meet criteria for two or more disorders. In the U.S., mental disorders are diagnosed based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM-IV).4Most (over 65%) of the diagnosed mental health disorders are reactive in nature to a faulty environment and are common to a population being placed under dire stress. As would be expected, anxiety disorders lead the way and can manifest themselves in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (common to veterans in combat), various social phobias, eating disorders (at record levels) and depression (rising at an alarming rate).Genetic factors are thought to generally play a role in mental illness in about 30-50% of all mental illnesses. However, the bulk of symptoms are maladaptive responses to a negative environment.PSYCHOPATH OR SOCIOPATH?The terms psychopath and sociopath were in vogue 30 years ago in the mental health field. We still see the use of these terms to describe morally deprived people who commit heinous acts of some sort against other human beings. However, on an official level, the terms have been rolled up into one clinical term, Anti Social Personal Disorder (ASPD).I contend that most of the mental illnesses that we are seeing in today's America are reactive to the depraved nature of those who seek power over others. It is becoming quite clear that when we closely examine the mental health of many in power, they exhibit the hallmark traits of people with diagnosable ASPD.ASPDAntisocial personality disorder is characterized by an individual's disregard for social rules and cultural norms, impulsive behavior, and indifference to the rights and feelings of others. Mental health researchers estimate that approximately 3% of males and 1% of females, aged 18 or over, have ASPD (Lenzenweger, M.F., Lane, M.C., Loranger, A.W., Kessler, R.C. (2007). DSM-IV personality disorders in the National Comorbidity Survey Replication. Biological Psychiatry, 62(6), 553-564).The National Institute of Mental Health diagnoses Anti-Social Personality Disorder by having four of the following seven characteristics: * Failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest. * Deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure. * Impulsivity or failure to plan ahead. * Irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults. * Reckless disregard for safety of self or others. * Consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations. * Lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another.ASPD IS FERTILE RECRUITING GROUND FOR TODAY'S LEADERSIf I were a power broker in the emerging New World Order and I needed politicians to carry out my agenda of controlling every person and every resource on the planet, I would seek individuals who have previously earned their stripes as mentally ill and highly ambitious individuals who will move to get ahead at all costs. I would seek out people who have the traits of an ASPD individual because I could count on them to pursue power at all costs in the pursuit of the NWO agenda. And when they are caught violating the public's trust, I would just replace them with another person who exhibits the same exact ASPD traits. And it is ideal if these "public servants" already have a litany of behaviors emanating from their ASPD symptoms that I could use to blackmail them when the need arises. In a nutshell, I have just described the American political scene.Whereas, 75% of Americans are emotionally stable and 25% are not, I think these are the exact inverse numbers of what we see in Congress and other key elected positions such as the governors of states. I believe that if we did a mental status exam on George Bush I, George Bush II, Bill Clinton and President Obama, we would see all four individuals with completely diagnosable ASPD. Millions have died, who did not have to under these criminally insane leaders. We have lived through three completely avoidable wars in which several million have perished as we whip a little democracy on them.ASPD IN CORPORATE CIRCLES AND LOCAL POLITICSWhen institutions engage in illegal business practices designed to deprive people of their homes, the leaders and their minions of these organizations are exhibiting ASPD. Richard Eskow, senior fellow for Campaign for America's Future, relates how former employees of Bank of America submitted sworn affidavits to a civil lawsuit claiming that "the financial institution purposely stalled, delayed or denied home loan modifications." They also claimed that the bank enforced foreclosure quotas and gave bonuses to those with the highest foreclosure rate. So will Bank of America pay for these alleged practices? No, because Federal judges are appointed by the criminally orientated mentally ill as well, or they would not be selected. This parallels what the Federal Reserve is doing. Since September of 2012, the Fed has been purchasing 40 billion dollars worth of mortgage backed securities each month. This is nothing but a modern-day version of feudalism in which the Lords are buying up all the land so they can exploit even more serfs who pay tribute to live on the land that has been stolen from them. Now we find that SECRET COURTS decide what the 4th Amendment to the Constitution entails. Secret courts? The term secrecy should be repugnant in a free society, but not in today's America. Secret, faceless and nameless judges have decided that you do not have a 4th Amendment right to be protected from the intrusive and unwarranted surveillance of the NSA. Secret courts? What is this, the Wizard of OZ? Timothy Geithner received 400,000 for three speeches which he gave to his fellow banksters. And he was paid with your money! Then there is the whore-monger, Eliot Spitzer, forced to resign from office five years ago for his involvement in a prostitution scandal. Spitzer has such a bad case of ASPD that he trotted his wife out on stage when he announced that he was again seeking political office and that he had learned his lesson and that he was never so happy as when he was involved in public service. I think Spitzer meant he was happiest when he was being publicly serviced. Then who could ever forget Anthony Weiner? You remember Weiner don't you? He was forced to resign from Congress for publicly displaying his last name in a text to show what a man he is. Interesting, when one urinates in public and is caught, they must register as a sex offender. Weiner's actions impacted far more people and he gets to politically recycle himself with impunity. Please reread the symptoms of ASPD. Every president in recent history, most of Congress and various "Weiners" such as Spitzer and Geithner have ASPD and you are their victims. In short, people of America, we are ruled by what used to be called psychopaths and you are their victims on an accelerated basis. We wonder why things do not change. Why are we continuing to comply with these criminally mentally ill? These psychopaths are literally and figuratively driving the country crazy as proven by our skyrocketing rates of mental illness among the general population.Isn't it time that we begin to impose standards of moral conduct such as when you are caught with a prostitute, that you are ineligible to run for public office. Shouldn't the murder of Ambassador Stevens at Benghazi be enough to keep co-conspirator Hillary Clinton from becoming the President of the United States. Yet, she is the heir apparent in 2016. When one publicly exposes themselves before God and country, shouldn't this prohibit this person from becoming a mayor? And to the sheep of America, don't your children deserve better than to be ruled over by a bunch of perverted psychopaths. These actions are not the exception, they are the norm (see Feinstein, Pelosi, Reed, etc.) In the words of the author of Common Sense, "Tis time to part."Dave is an award winning psychology, statistics and research professor, a college basketball coach, a mental health counselor, a political activist and writer who has published dozens of editorials and articles in several publications such as Freedoms Phoenix, News With Views and The Arizona Republic.THE COMMON SENSE SHOW features a wide variety of important topics that range from the loss of constitutional liberties, to the subsequent implementation of a police state under world governance, to exploring the limits of human potential. The primary purpose of The Common Sense Show is to provide Americans with the tools necessary to reclaim both our individual and national sovereignty."Enter Your Email To Receive Our Daily Newsletter "Close "BE THE CHANGE! 0 Phobia Treatment What Are The Different Methods

Phobia Treatment What Are The Different Methods
By Cecelia C. Bridgeman

There are a number of effective behavioral techniques that are used by therapists for phobia treatment. Cognitive techniques and medications are also deemed to be useful for treatments. Before discussing these treatments, it is important to note that there exists a relationship between obsessive-compulsive disorder and phobias. OCD is an anxiety disorder wherein people afflicted with it are burdened with uncontrollable thoughts, and distressing compulsions. A phobia is the irrational fear over almost anything. For example, germ phobic people have obsessive thoughts about the possibility of contacting microbes, and they always feel the need to wash themselves over and over.

Treatment for bridge phobia consists of antidepressant or anti anxiety medications in conjunction with behavioral therapy to teach one coping mechanisms to employ whenever placed into a situation that would trigger the phobia. Another treatment is called desensitization. This works by putting yourself into the situation that triggers your anxiety a little at a time until it stops bothering you, then going a little further.

Modeling, another component of phobia treatment, is normally used together with systematic desensitization. In this case, the therapist must perform or model the right behavior first before asking the client to do the same. By observing the therapist, the client learns to associate calm responses to the therapist's behavior towards the feared object or situation. The last component of this method is flooding, which entails the client, who is taught relaxation techniques, to be consistently exposed to the feared object until the OCD or phobia is extinguished. This treatment is the least preferred by clients because of the great distress it can cause them.

Actually it's this last option that is one of the more common fears about dogs. They can get just too enthusiastic in their greeting. Bounding up fast towards you and then leaping up to reinforce their enthusiasm. Maybe even bowling you over when they haven't slowed down quite enough in those last couple of paces. This can be a daunting experience even for those people who aren't actually afraid of dogs on a general basis. If exposure treatment sounds a bit too over the top for you, there are other methods available.Another common way to deal with dog phobia is to use hypnosis. This can be a face-to-face session with a hypnotist in your locality or it can be as simple as playing a pre-recorded MP3 to yourself.Whichever method you choose, the general process is the same.

There are other types of phobia treatment available. Cognitive-behavioral treatments combine the behavioral techniques mentioned above with cognitive techniques that help in identifying and challenging distressing thoughts about the feared objects. This type of treatment is very effective for social phobia since it can be administered in a group setting. Biological treatments are the last type of method. People are prescribed with medicines such as benzodiazepines, monoamine oxidase inhibitors and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors to provide temporary relief, since they cannot extinguish phobias. There are also studies that proved that relapse happens soon after stopping the medication. To sum it up, it eems that behavior therapy, the best method, still involves the adage "confront your fears."

Commitmentphobia phobia can affect all areas of a person's life. Commitment phobics often fear committing to a relationship, a job, a pet, or anything else. These fears are exaggerations of normal fears of making the wrong choice of a mate or job. The sufferer generally fears most that which he or she wants most, which suggests the phobia is born of a fear of failure or a feeling of unworthiness and so subconsciously decide to reject someone before they can be rejected. While most phobias can be treated by frequent brief exposure to the item or situation feared, a therapist can't expose a client to repeated relationships. The only way to treat this condition is to uncover and treat the root causes. Many commitment phobics experienced the death of a parent or a parental divorce or some other abandonment issue. Someone may have been abused or betrayed by a member of the opposite sex and so is afraid to trust.

These negative experiences and beliefs can be self perpetuating. The phobic person does not see his or her part in the break-up. This reinforces the belief that he or she can not trust members of the same sex and so rejects the next person who gets close. There are some classic behaviors exhibited by phobic men and women. For clarity's sake we will use he in this list of common commitment phobic behaviors. You may see yourself or a friend in some or many of these behaviors.

Beta blockers work by reducing the physical signs of social anxiety such as profuse sweating and accelerated heartbeat. Meanwhile, an individual suffering from severe anxiety is usually advised to undergo treatments using antidepressants. Paxil, Effexor, and Zoloft are among the antidepressants that have been approved by the FDA as anxiety and depression treatment. When worse comes to worst and the first two treatments still don't work, benzodiazepines can be used to treat an individual's extreme anxiety.

Therapy.CBT or Cognitive-behavioral therapy is one of the most valuable treatments used to reduce an anxiety or panic attack symptom. This type of treatment is rooted in the idea that negative thoughts and feelings influence one's behavior. What CBT does is teach an individual to replace negative thoughts with more balanced views. It also involves gradual and systematic techniques in confronting social situations instead of dodging them. Therapies and medications usually work well together so it is also advisable that they be taken simultaneously.

The phobic individual needs to figure out what commitment means to him or her.Talk therapy helps the client to determine these issues. It also helps the person to deal with these things and reduce the stress in his or her life.People who suffer from extreme forms of commitment phobia may benefit from mood stabilizing medications, since they can become depressed by not being able to carry on a satisfactory relationship. It is a big step to even acknowledge the fact that you have a problem and being willing to seek help. The burden of having a phobia can be overcome and seeking a commitment phobia and fear treatment and cure is the way to achieve that goal.
