Hypnosis is done by letting you reach a very relaxed state where your subconscious mind becomes highly receptive for suggestions. After this stage is reached you can use those suggestions to send new beliefs to your mind.

The media misused its rights by mutating the picture people have for hypnosis. Today when you say the word hypnosis in front of someone the first thing he will think of is that you will make him sleep then ask him to act like a rabbit or a chicken.
On the contrary, hypnosis is a scientific method that was approved for use as a method of therapy since a long time ago. Hypnosis won't make you totally unconscious but instead you will stay conscious while being hypnotized but the only difference is that your conscious mind will become a little bit dormant and your subconscious mind will become a little bit more in control.
You cannot force someone to do what he doesn't want to do nor say what he doesn't want to say using hypnosis. Just think of hypnosis as a state of a very deep relaxation where you become receptive to suggestions but still aware of your surroundings.
WHAT IS THE STATE OF HYPNOSIS LIKE?
the state of hypnosis is exactly the same as the state you experience when you stay in bed just before you fall asleep. Its the state of being half awake.
This state is called trance state,during the trance state the conscious mind becomes a little dormant.The subconscious gains more control and thus makes you receptive to suggestions because the conscious mind no longer filters data.
Under normal circumstances you won't believe anything that you hear because your conscious mind will filter whatever it does not like. If I told you that you are a confident person you may not believe me because you might have opposing beliefs, however, under the state of trance your conscious mind wont be there to filter this piece of information and so it will go directly to your subconscious and stay there.
If you saw a Pepsi commercial telling you that you must buy Pepsi while being fully awake then it may not have a great impact on you.However if you were to see that ad while being in a hypnotic state you may go and buy Pepsi immediately because the suggestions and affirmations will not be filtered by the conscious mind. That's why some companies used subliminal messages to program the minds of the audience to buy more of their products while watching their commercials which resulted in a larger sales volume.
After knowing this fact you may have already guessed that if you bypassed someone's conscious mind you may be able to convince him to believe you because your opinion will go unfiltered to his subconscious mind.
WHAT CAN I DO WITH HYPNOSIS?
hypnosis is very useful because it can help you program the mind, put new beliefs in it or to strengthen the old ones.Since the subconscious controls one's behavior you can install completely new behavior patterns.
Imagine the things you can do when you have the ability to modify the old unwanted beliefs and thoughts. What your life will be like if you were able to remove the negative beliefs about yourself, your self image, about your inferiority feelings or about being unable to succeed.

What is great about hypnosis is that you can do it on your own. You can do self hypnosis alone while using a recorded tape to send the suggestions to your mind after you enter the hypnotic state. Thus you wont be in need of someone to help you. This process is called self hypnosis.
